About the College

About the College

Ismailsaheb Mulla Law College was established in 1968 to impart legal education. It was the earnest desire of Karmaveer Dr. Bhaurao Patil to establish a law college in addition to Arts, Science, Commerce, and Education Colleges. After his sad demise in 1959, Ismailsaheb Mulla, Honorary Secretary of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, took great efforts and received permission from Shivaji University to start a Law College in Satara. He selected able and eminent lawyers from the District Bar Association of Satara as honorary lecturers and established this college on 15-05-1968, affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The college is named after Adv. Ismailsaheb Mulla, the renowned, selfless, and dedicated Honorary Secretary of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, who worked for 38 years in an honorary capacity.

In 1968, the three-year law course was offered by the college, which was initially housed in Mahatma Phule Adhyapak Vidyalaya and Sayajirao Mahavidyalaya at Karmaveer Samadhi Parisar. Later, in 1975, the college moved to the first floor of the newly constructed administrative building of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha. In 1985, a new Five-Year Law Course was introduced. With the growing number of students, an exclusive spacious building was constructed with support from Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, donors, and alumni. This new building was inaugurated in February 2007 by Hon'ble Justice Shri. P.B. Sawant (Retd. Judge, Supreme Court of India).

The college received permanent affiliation from Shivaji University in 2007 and UGC recognition in 2010. This enabled financial support for infrastructure and IT development. In 2012-13, the college introduced a Diploma in Labour Law affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

The college has been accredited by NAAC in three cycles: B++ grade with 81.75 score in 2004-05, A grade with 3.03 CGPA in 2017-18, and again A grade with 3.02 CGPA in 2024-25. Since 2019-20, the college started the Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.) with specializations in Business Law and Intellectual Property Rights. Diploma in Cyber Law and Diploma in Taxation were also introduced in 2019-20.

In 2022-23, the college received the prestigious Karmaveer Puraskar from Rayat Shikshan Sanstha for outstanding academic achievements and was awarded ISO 9000:2015 certification. The college has a proud academic history, with students consistently ranking in merit lists of various law programs. More than 150 alumni are serving as judicial officers across various courts, including High Courts. Many alumni are also successful legal practitioners, NET/SET qualified professors, and public prosecutors.

Currently, the college runs two undergraduate programs, one master's degree, five diploma programs, and seven certificate courses with over 750 students enrolled. The college employs qualified teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure quality education. Faculty members are actively engaged in academics and research with notable publications. The library is well-equipped with the latest texts and reference books, and the entire campus is integrated with ICT tools for effective teaching, learning, and student development.
